About Tess and Julia Weddings
Tess and Julia Weddings
Our names are Tess Mayer & Julia Wang and we are photography duo based in NYC. We met our freshman year at NYU Tisch and since then have run a magazine together, worked as teaching assistants at ICP & NYU, and shot our first wedding our senior year. Our style is a blend of candid documentary and stylized portraiture - we approach your day not as strangers following you around, but as excited guests (who happen to be carrying around cameras and massive lenses) who will most likely cry during your vows. We love small, intimate and relaxed weddings.
Tess, the head photographer, is a full time freelance photographer. She shoots regularly for The New York Times, The Cut, and works for The New York Knicks and the Knicks City Dancers, and used to work at SNL and Interview Magazine. She loves film photography and color darkroom printing. She has three cats–Jared, Jimmy, and Tilly, and a dog, Frances. When she's not photographing or emailing, she's at her ceramics studio. Julia, the secondary photographer, is now a full time lawyer! She still loves photography and finds time to be a second photographer on many weekend weddings. She's also a ceramics enthusiast, and loves her cat, Spicy.

Would hire again and again and again!
We loved working with Tess. Anytime anyone asks if I have a photographer suggestion, I always name Tess! The photos turned out beautifully, she made sure to get shots of all our guests, and she captured all the energy in the room. Tess also delivered the photos with such a quick turnaround. We loved her work so much that we ended up hiring her again to take family portraits with our baby son.
Best Experience Ever
Tess and Julia Weddings were an absolute dream to work with for our wedding day. Their communication was clear and prompt throughout the entire process, putting us at ease. The quality of their work was amazing - the photos they captured were vibrant, beautiful, and perfectly captured the intimate moments between my husband and I. Tess made us feel so comfortable in front of the camera, allowing us to be silly and try different things. Despite the chaos of the day, Tess ensured we got the photos we wanted that followed the theme of our wedding. We are thrilled with the final results and would highly recommend Tess and Julia Weddings to any couple looking for an exceptional photography experience on their special day.
Most amazing photos and experience!
We absolutely LOVE the photos taken by Tess and Julia for our August wedding in Brooklyn. We knew Tess would capture the day from the moment she shared some of her prior work with us. She was communicative and easy to work with. On the day of our wedding, she and Julia arrived on time and ready to go! Tess was thoughtful and creative with the variety of pictures she took, and brought the venue and the entire wedding to life through our photos. She made us feel like naturals, and we love that everything felt loose and fun. We had a great time taking pictures with Tess and Julia beforehand, they captured all of the family pictures we asked for, and then they took the night into their own hands. The candid photos of the night are some of the ones we most cherish. We love reliving the night through these pictures. Highly recommend!!
A Joy to Work With!
Tess went above and beyond to document our intimate wedding! We loved how she was able to capture the celebration on so many different mediums - from Polaroid, to digital, to film - and did so seamlessly without missing a shot. She was incredibly responsive to our vision and helped create a smooth and efficient timeline for photographing the various events of the day, from behind-the-scenes getting ready photos to family portraits. Tess was efficient and timely with sharing the final prints following the celebration, and she made it incredibly easy to share with friends and family via a personalized link. Overall, our experience with Tess was incredibly positive and we highly recommend hiring her for any of your photography needs :)
