I moved to downtown Minneapolis from Iowa to attend college. My husband and I met my husband at a cafe concert where we both never thought we’d see each other again. A few days later, he walked into my college class and the joy on my face was indescribable. The rest is history! I met a local photographer who took me under their wing where I learned the beauty of photography. This is where I fell in love with people, specifically the connection between two who are madly in love. I am passionate about documenting love in its rawest form for who the couple really is and for how their day naturally unfolds. It’s ALWAYS about the couple.

I’ve loved art for as long as I can remember. In fact, I spent more time sketching, and creating things than paying attention in most classes (oops). I’ve found that art has always been a way for me to communicate with the world. Where my words fell short, creating things came in handy. Photography is simply an amazing extension of that. To me, photography is a way to capture memories and intricate details that God has created, to tell the story. And my desire is to capture feelings and candid moments that you can look at and instantly connect with - for years to come. People matter, and everyone has a story to tell!

My love of weddings started early in life. The design and decor, the endless creative options, the unique venues, the gowns, and of course, the romance. What has kept me going for the last thirteen years has been the storytelling. The immersion into true emotions and connections. Not only with the newlyweds but with the group of bridesmaids standing along side their lifelong friend; the empathetic glances between the in-laws as they watch their "kids" tie the knot; and the blossoming friendships over a few too many glasses of wine and groovy dance moves. A real look into so many different loves, lives, and relationships.

I landed my first wedding in Seattle in 1999 somewhat by accident. After a couple loved the portraits I made for them, they asked if I would shoot their wedding. Fortunately, my naivety was inadvertently a bonus because I photographed that wedding the same way I photographed news stories: as discreetly as possible and recognizing key moments at the speed they are happening rather than directing the action or creating artificial scenarios. VIDART's chief photographer studied at Columbia for film and U of I for foreign languages and philosophy, and went to Loyola for graduate studies. He worked at Lyric Opera of Chicago filming operas before joining VIDART. He is the author of the college textbook Cinematography 101, and has worked with John de Lancie (Q in Star Trek: TNG) on the science documentary The Reality of Time. Michael has also worked on the sets of over a dozen other feature films. He has handled the photography and videography for several thousand weddings and events, including work for clients such as Microsoft, Amazon, Macy’s, Sysco and more.
