Rob Montgomery

Owner

Rob Montgomery has over 20 years of experience in the music industry. He studied music and engineering at Ohio State University. After school he worked as a Mechanical Engineer in the steel industry for 5 years. Living in New Orleans fueled his passion for music, and in April 2017 he left the steel industry to pursue music full time. His inspiration ranges from jazz, funk, soul, rock, blues, and much more. His diverse experience and fun loving character helps drive the focus of Sunny Side while still allowing time for several other music projects.

Rob's discipline through engineering has sculpted his professionalism as a band manager. He is quick to respond, and follows the client from each inquiry and is on site for each performance. Communication is clear, concise, and Rob's intention is to provide music that moves and inspires guests and hosts. He has worked over 100 weddings in New Orleans, he plans ahead, and he knows how to be flexible in almost any situation. Rob cares about every detail so that the client has an incredible experience, while also being clear about the limits and capabilities of Sunny Side.

Amazing Band!
The Sunny Side Jazz Band was absolutely fantastic! They played our ceremony and reception excellently. We had a lot of jazz fans in attendance and they were blown away by the performance and skill of the musicians. Everybody agreed that the band was amazing. The vocalist had a fun, upbeat vibe and got everybody dancing! They learned a new song for our first dance (they offer to learn three), and even sent us a recording of their rehearsal for us to practice to.

The best NOLA band!
We can’t say enough about how incredible our wedding was—thanks in large part to Sunny Side Band! They provided music for our ceremony, Second Line parade, and reception, and absolutely exceeded our expectations at every turn. We loved their energy and vibe when researching bands and immediately hired them after watching their videos. Rob, the band leader, was a pleasure to work with—professional, organized, and easy to communicate with throughout the planning process. Sunny Side even learned and performed our first dance song, which they had never played before, and it was perfect. Our guests raved about the lively New Orleans jazz music, feeling like they were at a private concert. One of the highlights of the night was the Second Line parade—watching our guests follow the band with huge smiles was pure magic. We’re already looking forward to the next event where we can bring these talented musicians back. Thank you, Sunny Side, for making our celebration unforgettable!

Highlight of our wedding
Our wedding was designed to showcase and celebrate our neighborhood, the Lower Garden District. We held the ceremony at Coliseum Square Park in the LGD. Sunnyside provided a jazz quartet to play as guests arrived, during the ceremony, and after the toast. Then the brass band showed up for a second-line parade to Lula's Distillery on St Charles for the reception. Once at Lula's the entire band converged for dancing and fun. Looking back, the music was the highlight of our event.

One of the best parts of our wedding!!
Booking Sunny Side was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding!!! We received so many compliments. I liked that they played more jazz and not traditional wedding music. We had so many people dancing. They also did our second line and were fabulous!

Wonderful job
We had Sunny Side Jazz Band play for our New Orleans wedding February 2024. We could not have asked for a more perfect match. From the beginning, communication was easy, open and thorough. Their talent is unmatched by any jazz band we’ve seen in New Orleans. Wedding guests still comment on how that was the best band they’ve seen. I would book them again and again!
