Stroudsmoor is the real deal. When we got engaged, my top priority was that I did not want to be stressed on my wedding day. Leading up to the day, I knew there was a lot of work, a lot of planning, but on my actual wedding day, I wanted to take care of nothing. I wanted to be in charge of nothing. I used to work in events, and I know the depth and insanity that comes with planning an event and how hard the actual event day can be. I knew that whatever venue we picked, it would need to be as all-inclusive and simple as possible. Everything about Stroudsmoor was a dream. The entire process was seamless. They were so professional. They were upfront on costs. Any service they did not offer themselves they had a list of preferred, recommended vendors. Leading up to the wedding day, we met with our planner, Kaylie, regularly, their on-site florist, Grayson, and Gina and the whole team at the bridal salon were incredible. They walked us through everything, step-by-step. We got married at Woodsgate this summer – surrounded by the forest, it was absolutely gorgeous and everything we could have hoped for. We are so happy we chose them and we will continue to recommend them to everyone! Photography Credit: Marshall Scott Photography https://marshallscottphotography.com/

My fiancé and I were looking for a rustic wedding venue, not a ballroom, preferably a venue with space to be outside (weather permitting). We visited a few options in the Philly area and fell in love with the John James Audubon Center! The space offers SO many options for an outdoor or indoor ceremony. They host receptions in the pavilion which is open with huge windows and firepits outside! The site is beautiful, and everyone we’ve worked with has been immensely helpful! After officially booking for our October 2024 wedding, we planned to visit with our parents. What was originally intended to be a quick stroll around the grounds turned into an impromptu tour with the venue manage. She answered all of our parents' questions and even brought out photo books of previous weddings for us to flip through together. With the wedding right around the corner now, we could not be more thrilled with our decision and can't wait to be there next month to celebrate our big day!

Newtown Square, PA
  • Up to 260 guests

Finley Catering’s suburban location, The Ballroom at Ellis Preserve, is a perfect complement to our center city locations. Opened in the Fall of 2016, The Ballroom stands as our 4th historical landmark in a pastoral green setting. All staffed and catered in-house, The grand Greek revival facility with its towering columns continues to honor the legacy of Charles Ellis, a local entrepreneur. Built in 1932, the location was used as a school for girls around the Philadelphia area. Now, Finley Catering plans to bring a totally new dimension to our brides and corporate clients by combining our culinary expertise and top-notch service with the idyllic grounds for an outdoor ceremony or cocktail hour along with the state-of-the-art grandiose Ballroom for your dinner and reception. An even better add on, the once- dorm like cottages next door are the perfect backdrop to many first look and couples portraits onsite.

Why you'll love this venue

  • Lush gardens
  • Multiple event spaces
  • Accommodates more than 200 guests

Venue considerations

  • Not for you if you are drawn to more unconventional venues
  • No on-site guest accommodations
  • Venue feels large for events with small guest lists
If you were on the fence about having your wedding at the Ballroom At Ellis preserve, or honestly at any of the Finley catering venues, DO IT IF YOU POSSIBLY CAN. As a generally detail oriented and type A person, I cannot fully express how exceptional the entire planning and day of process was with Finley. We worked closely with Meagan who was extremely responsive and helpful the entire time. As a bride, on the day of the wedding neither I nor my family had to think about a single detail – Finley handled it all. Savannah was our maître d’ for the day of the wedding and she was exceptional and made sure we were where we needed to be, when we needed to be there. Numerous people have told me that they have never been to such an incredible wedding and that everything flowed perfectly well and took the perfect amount of time. We didn’t even need to hire an outside planner or day of coordinator. And everything was perfect. This particularly blessed me because my husband and I had a six month engagement. We got engaged on January 30 and married on August 16. Planning the wedding in this short amount of time was made easy because of the expertise of Finley. Finley worked with us to ensure that we had all of the details we wanted for the day of, and also went above and beyond to make the planning process stress-free. I was particularly grateful that we did not have to bring in outside rentals – linens, China, silverware, tables and chairs, etc. was all done through Finley and it streamlined everything. It was so nice to just have to talk to one person instead of coordinating with numerous vendors. Megan also had great recommendations for other vendors! And I have to say - the food was AMAZING. We still have people raving about the food from our wedding, especially the insane cocktail hour display. Our dinner service was perfect, professional, and delicious. The venue itself was beautiful and beyond my dreams. It has all of the tradition of a historic building, with modern amenities and capacity for 200 people. The entire space is perfect and clean. Elegant and beautiful. The bridal suite’s size and the bridal attendants made the getting ready process seamless and kept the space calm and organized. I also appreciated how straightforward and transparent Finley was with their pricing and all that it included. Deeply refreshing to see from anyone in the wedding industry. I am a fan of Finley for life, the ballroom at ellis preserve was beyond my wildest dreams, and I am so grateful for their work to truly make the day the best of our lives.

Our wedding spanned five different exhibits/areas of the Penn Museum -- from a procession in the Stoner Courtyard to the ceremony in Pepper Hall, to cocktail hour in the Lower Level Egypt exhibit (where the Sphinx used to be), to dinner in the Chinese Rotunda, and finally dancing in the Upper Level Egypt exhibit. Being surrounded by the galleries in a beautiful venue made for a unique and unforgettable event! Everything went smoothly thanks to the thoughtfulness and attentiveness of Atiya German and Michelle Bach (CxRA). They helped us accomplish our vision for our wedding, and were accommodating to our special needs for food, decor, a few young children in attendance, clothing changes, an unexpected light rain on the wedding day, and even a horse at the procession! Prices were very reasonable, especially when compared to other similar venues in Philly, and we were only ever charged for what we used. I highly recommend Penn Museum and working with Atiya in particular.

We had our winter wedding at the Philadelphia Horticulture Center at Fairmount Park, and I truly cannot say enough amazing things about this venue. Olivia and her team made it pure magic from start to finish. The space is absolutely stunning — even in the winter, it feels like you’re stepping into a romantic garden oasis. The greenery, natural light, and elegant greenhouse vibe create the perfect mix of cozy and breathtaking, and our guests could not stop talking about how unique and beautiful it was and how good the food and cocktails were. The setting is naturally gorgeous, which made our photos look like something out of a magazine. The venue flows beautifully for a wedding — from ceremony to cocktail hour to reception — and it felt intimate, warm, and inviting while still being spacious enough to celebrate comfortably. The winter atmosphere made it even more special: romantic, glowing, and timeless. If you’re looking for a Philadelphia wedding venue that feels elevated, charming, and unforgettable, the Horticulture Center is it. It’s a true hidden gem in the city and was the perfect backdrop for the most incredible day of our lives. We are so grateful we chose this venue — it was everything we dreamed of and more. Highly, highly recommend!

I wanted to throw a party for my work friends with only a few weeks notice. I wanted a low-key weekend event, where people could bring dogs and kids and still have a nice time. Like a backyard barbecue without the hassle of cooking and cleaning (for someone who doesn’t have a yard!) Cira Green was able to accommodate us with very little fuss. A couple emails back-and-forth and I had exactly what I wanted, they have lots of different food and drink options and I was able to pick what we needed. Good food, nice drinks, a beautiful view and the tent insured everyone would be comfortable rain or shine.

There aren't enough positive things that I can say about Terrain and their team! I knew well before my wedding day that picking Terrain for our wedding was going to be the best decision I made, and I was SO right. Planning was smooth, well thought out, and easy! Carla was my coordinator and WHAT A BOSS!!! Between the planning process being fun with her to the day where rain came semi unexpectedly and Carla perfectly timed the ceremony in between boughts of rain, ensuring we could utilize the beautiful temple area for the ceremony. The team squeegeed the aisle and chairs for the guests to ensure their comfort which was truly beyond what I had ever thought of! Every guest raved about how incredibly well the entire evening ran, they loved the gorgeous property, and the food was not only raved about but it was so plentiful that one of our guests genuinely thought that there was not a sit down dinner after cocktail hour because they had access to so many different hors d'oeuvres! Not only did the guests enjoy the whole evening, but my husband, our parents, and myself all felt BEYOND taken care of all day by all of the staff. I truly did not think once the entire event and that's just a nod to how well taken care of you are the entire time. My bridal attendants were attentive, helped me with a dress change, and all around hyped me up throughout the day, adding to the joy of it all! As a wedding vendor myself (photographer) I can not speak highly enough about Terrain and their staff at Styer's. It's a literal no brainer to book with them!

I have to say The Barn at Cauffiel was the best venue that my husband and I ever could have picked for our wedding day last April 2025. I’ve been meaning to write this review for a while! The whole Jeffrey A. Miller (JAM for short) team there is extremely professional, helpful, and just downright amazing people for organizing your event and catering, whatever it may be. The Barn at Cauffiel estate is gorgeous with a combination of vintage, rustic, and floral beauty. They really have some amazing places to take pictures of everything and our photographers loved the space. They even rent out the house to stay in overnight in case you want to get ready at the house before the ceremony and reception (there’s a gorgeous room with natural lighting on the ground floor that we got ready in)! The food and drinks (lavender lemonade and hibiscus iced tea were my favorites) there are absolutely incredible. Especially the hors d’oeuvres, the ones that stick out in my memory were the salmon cones, prosciutto Manchego croquettes, lamb chops, bacon wrapped scallops, cheesesteak spring rolls, and even a surprise one called “hot date in Nashville” (a cheese stuffed date with what I think was sweet chili sauce. We also got the pretzel bar add on with multiple dips for picky eaters (my niece and nephews). Our dinner was pasta for the vegetarian option, chicken with parsnips puree, and coffee rubbed tomahawk steak with mushrooms and sauces. You will not be disappointed! They also made our cake for us which was delicious as well, we went with a split of strawberry for the bottom layer & bourbon chocolate for the top and middle layer with salted caramel buttercream icing. All of this was already amazing, but by far the best thins about picking this venue was the event coordinators. Lissette & Nicole helped to organize the WHOLE THING. They put together a timeline for everything to happen so I could communicate with the other vendors coming to help. They had organized forms to fill out for seating charts, menu choices, and decorations inventory to keep track of everything. They even followed up with me before, during and after the whole event with any questions or concerns I may have. They were so THOROUGH. Not only that but the assistant coordinator Siobhan worked incredibly hard with tracking the decoration inventory from the house for cocktail hour to the barn for reception dinner was so helpful and on point. She was also so kind and excited about our wedding that she really stood out as a wonderful person. I can’t say enough about how amazing our big day was, so thank you from the bottom of my heart!

The Fitler Club was a fantastic choice for our daughters wedding venue which was held Memorial Day weekend. From the very beginning, their communication was quality, professional, and timely - they were a pleasure to work with. The staff was top-notch, going above and beyond to ensure our special day went off without a hitch. The venue itself offered multiple beautiful settings for pictures, and the flow of the event was perfectly spaced out. We couldn't have asked for a better value for the exceptional service and stunning backdrop they provided. We highly recommend the Fitler Club to any couple looking for a stress-free, beautiful wedding experience. The food was all 5 star in appearance and taste. The Hotel Palomar went above and beyond for our wedding weekend in the spring. We had our rehearsal dinner, ceremony, reception, and morning after brunch as well as our room block at the hotel. The even coordinator, Erin S. and the entire team involved went above and beyond every step of the way. Five months before our wedding, I had to have major surgery and quarantine for two – three months after. I was unable to attend our food tasting but my fiancé and both sets of parents went on my behalf. Erin was not only understanding but supportive as my own family and friends were – checking in and celebrating with me after the surgery. When the tasting came, the chef sent home full-sized portions for me to try at home. This was in addition to the full-sized ones my family tried as well. The entire staff was there to answer any questions from me or our family. We had several dietary restrictions which Erin coordinated with the chef on our behalf to make sure those guests were included without having to worry. We had a memorial table as well as several things to be set out (guest book, favors, name cards, etc.). I gave all these items to the team and it was fully taken care of for me and they even knew which favors were to be for gluten free guests. Erin provided a list of pre-approved vendors they had worked with before (we didn’t have to use these) and we ended up using a lot of them. Erin coordinated with them directly as needed, photography locations for if it rained and DJ timeline. Due to the top tier efforts of the entire hotel, we were AHEAD of schedule the entire weekend which really allowed everyone to be fully present. My bridal party and I were in the suite for preparations and they continued to go above and beyond. We had a team member bring us our food and coffee order and he was so accommodating. He brought iced coffee when I mentioned that’s my preferences and we talked about our pets since I had my dog with me (as did several of our guests). Our guests were also well taken care of – from unpacking cars for their stays to helping our vendors get to their locations. I would sit here and list every name of every person that I felt were stars but honestly, it was the entire team. Everyone I encountered the whole time was a five star person. I cannot recommend this location enough for any occasion including just a regular weekend stay in Philadelphia.

We could not have asked for a better experience at Bellevue. We knew Bellevue was perfect for us because the park held a lot of memories, and the mansion is so stunning and full of history. There are so many beautiful locations for photos and we loved that our cocktail hour could be inside and outside. The reception tent allows for you to see the park/greenery and horses, which creates a beautiful atmosphere. The food was great, and everyone loved the bartenders, and the fun surprise Barbie drink was so cute! We were so grateful for the cocktail hour food in the dressing room and the desserts ready at our sweetheart table. Also, the food wrapped up at the end of the night! Those were all very sweet touches! We truly appreciate all of the effort the team put into our day, it was so magical! Thank you!

How Can You Incorporate Remote Participation in Your Woodlyn Wedding?

While no Woodlyn venues specifically highlight advanced remote participation features, you'll want to prioritize locations with reliable internet infrastructure if including virtual guests matters to you. Look for venues with strong WiFi signals and consider partnering with specialized event production companies that can set up interactive livestreams and remote participation enhancements. This way distant loved ones can still share in your special day even if they can't attend in person.
